Feeling grateful
And scared, too
Greetings, my friends! This morning my heart is full of gratitude for the folks who turned out all across the nation yesterday to express themselves. We even had 40 folks in deep red Quartzsite show up! It was all done with very short notice, as we finally got approved Friday morning, and I expected no more than a dozen folks. It’s not the best decision for this journalist to do, but I knew others needed to have an opportunity to express themselves. Besides, no one else stepped up.
Yesterday afternoon I posted some photos and a video on Desert Messenger News Facebook Fage and boy, howdy, the nasty comments are pretty wild. I’ve always had a policy of no name calling and required folks to be respectful in their comments. There are so many comments coming so fast I cannot keep up with it.
These are the just statistics from earlier this morning!

At the rally, I actually felt safe enough to be who I am and had fun waving my small rainbow flag in public! We have purchased many flags, but don’t fly them for fear of retaliation. It’s just what life is like in this small town for LGBTQ folks and many democrats I know. But I did had fun yesterday!
The funny thing is some folks seemed surprised that I was enthusiastic yesterday.
Maybe they just missed my November 20, 2024 Editorial:
I ended with: “I do know that I have a voice. You have a voice. How will we use our voices? Will we lift up each other or tear someone down because we don’t agree/understand them? Will we practice empathy or not? And how do we take care of ourselves in the process?
“Now more than ever we must embrace Lincoln’s calling, in ways however small and seemingly insignificant, to ensure that our government “shall not perish from the earth.” I refuse to give in to cynicism and defeatism. If Lincoln could find the strength to rally a nation at the brink of dissolution, we can and must do so today.” ~Kevin M. Levin
Trump will be president, not a king. This American won’t bow, and neither should you.
I am still the person who encourages good relations. I still believe laughter is the best medicine. I still believe we are all related, even if you don’t like me or approve of my choices. I still believe hate does not make America great! I may go broke over this, but I will continue to encourage folks to have compassion and empathy for others. I am so grateful for all the folks who attended rallies yesterday, not just in the US but across the world!
YES! I will continue to: EMBRACE HOPE!
Cause we all really need it! And I hope you do also!
When you find yourself stressed and holding tension in your body, remember to BREATHE… deep from the belly… and REPEAT…. Count your blessings and know that YOU’VE GOT THIS!
Remember, your ancestors are here for you today!
Thank you to Swankie Wheels, of NOMADLAND, and all my friends who supported me to get ‘er don! I hope you all have a blessed day! ~RAIN
