A quick note
And Deadline is Wednesday
Greetings everyone! Just a quick reminder of the upcoming Deadline for September 17th edition of Desert Messenger News is this WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10th.
Please email your letters to the editor, display ads, articles, events, classified ads, obituaries, etc. by 5pm Wednesday, September 10th. Thank you!
So, my old desktop Windows 7 decided to quit on me a couple of weeks ago. Luckily, my sweetie is very creative and recently got it up and running, but it’s a bit slower. So, I’ve been on my laptop in the kitchen while the desktop got taken apart and parts were everywhere. I really enjoy using Windows 7, and my programs run smoothly on it. If you happen to know anyone who has an old version just lying around, please let me know. Meanwhile, I’ll be working on the upcoming edition bit by bit!
Recently, I've noticed many people online expressing their complaints about various issues. I get it; there’s a lot to be angry about these days. Life can be very challenging, like when my desktop quit working…Seriously challenging!
I recently saw a post online stating, "Don't focus on what you hate, focus on what you love." In marketing, we’re often told that the brain stops with the words, “No!” “Don’t” etc. Sounds good, but in reality, the subconscious mind just has to work harder to process the negative, so that’s why you won’t see ads starting with “No” very often. I decided to re-frame the message and had fun creating a more positive statement. That little heart that shows up over the word "hate" was really random... I thought all the hearts were in the background, but obviously not! Funny how the universe works.
Be kind to your brain!
Your brain can get tired, also known as mental fatigue, or cognitive failure, so be gentle with yourself. How?
Instead of saying, "I will not fail," say, "I am focused on my success."
Why? The first phrase focuses on the negative outcome of "failure." The second directs energy toward the positive, desired outcome.
Another example: Instead of thinking "I don't want to be stressed," use "I am calm and relaxed." And Breathe…deep from the belly… repeat.
After you’ve given your brain a rest, give canva.com a try. The free version offers lots of cool options.
